For @lemoninagin. I meant to write this a lot sooner, but I had five other stories to finish first. This was based on one of many Shizaya breakup headcannons that dear lemon came up with and allowed me to write.

“Yeah… that’s the last of it,” Izaya murmured as he handed Shizuo a box of the things the blond had at Izaya’s place.

“…Thanks…Bye…” Shizuo slowly closed the door. Izaya stood there a few moments before turning and going home.

The apartment felt big, empty. They’d broken up about a week ago, and neither had adjusted to not having the other around all the time.

Shizuo looked around. All the stuff Izaya had kept there for when he stayed over was gone. It was a similar situation with Izaya in his own apartment.

They still had gifts that they had given each other, but it wasn’t the same as having something that the other owned and knowing that it meant they would still be coming back.

The bed felt the strangest. It was to big, it was cold, it was lonely. Curling under the covers, Shizuo held a pillow close to him, just under his chin and tight to his chest, where Izaya normally slept. It was no replacement, but it helped him sleep. It didn’t, however, help the heartache.

Izaya pulled the blankets over himself. There was no warmth in them. He longed to feel Shizuo’s arms wrapped around him. In his hands was a shirt, grasped tightly. It was one of Shizuo’s shirts. He’d kept it, the scent of the blond the only thing able to comfort him into falling asleep.

In their respective apartments, three words lingered in their minds, on their lips: “I miss you.”
